Overview of 22 Long Rifle (LR) Ammo

22 LR ammo is the most widely produced and popular cartridge in the United States. For more than 100 years, it has served the needs of hunters, sport shooters, law enforcement, and even the military. Based on the Flobert BB cap, 22 Long Rifle ammunition is the result of continuous improvement of the BB cap to meet the need for a cartridge with accuracy, low recoil, and low noise for many applications.

The 22 LR rimfire cartridge is used in many situations, from target shooting to plinking and small rodent control. It's comparatively inexpensive, widely available, and lighter to carry – making 22 LR ammo a fantastic choice for extended shooting sessions at the range, an extended hunting trip, or a long hike while hunting rabbits and squirrels. Our 22 LR price history shows how the cheapest rimfire range ammo has moved month by month since 2009.

For reliable performance across all these applications, many shooters choose CCI Mini Mag 22LR for its consistent feeding and accuracy.

What are the most popular 22LR brands you sell?

You can filter our entire selection using the left sidebar to see which brands we currently have in stock and available using the Manufacturers filter. Horrible ammo, stuck in my revolver and wouldn't feed at all thru SIG Sauer Mosquito. Unfortunately, I bought several boxes. Note to self, in the future, buy the smallest amount of ammo to see if it's worth it.

  • nicpic said:

worst ammo I ever tried ammo misfeads, duds & jams. No power junk.

  • Fritz said:

Cost twice as much as other brands. No difference in accuracy at 25 yards from a benchrest than the cheap stuff thru my new Mossberg 702 Plinkster . This did not jam, but neither did 8 other brands/models. all much cheaper.

    Cycles great shoots great.

  • terry said:

This will not cycle in my Walther Gold cup and won't fully load in my revolver. They only go about half way into the cylinder. They do seem to fire ok in my model 77 Winchester rifle.

  • Hacksaw said:

This is great Ammo. Has great power and penetration. This .22 bullet went through 5 pine 2x4s. It shoots a good pattern at 80 yards. I am well satisfied. Hacksaw

  • Wilfred said:

The ammo I wanted was in stock and shipped extremely quickly. It performed well at the range, I'll be buying these again.

  • Sweet said:

    Good quality great price

  • Thomas said:

This is the best ammo for the price. This is a CCI product and has sold reliability slightly below CCI branded ammunition. I live in the country and will use around 500 rounds every 45 days. Best kept secret.

  • Coonie said:

Great ammo great price very satisfied will definitely shop here again

  • Toad said:

It seems like if this bullet touches a squirrel’s they are dead

  • Karl said:

Great value and quality ammo with no performance issues.

  • Tom said:

Good tight consistent groups. My bolt action plinker liked them. Exceptional value and great experience with Ammo.com. Last visit to the range I paid $16 per 100 for lead bullets so it was great to get a better price for copper coated delivered to my door at a great price.

  • Jack said:

Excellent service and quality product. Highly recommended to all my friends

  • Doc said:

American made ammo that has functioned flawlessly in my Ruger Mark IV!

  • Dale said:

These are good shells, and high quality from a name you know. Pretty good valve as well, so you can probably afford to shoot all day!

  • Matt said:

    Same as above! ????

  • D said:

I've run this through a couple different .22 rifles and it's always cycled. Great for plinking.

  • thederdog said:

Bought 400 rounds not one missfire or jam. Fired true at 100 yards . Expensive for 22LR but does fires true and clean

  • jeager said:

I do a LOT of shooting with rim fire .22 ammo and hunt small game for the pot. This ammo is accurate, and shot to shot quality is stellar. Best I've ever used and ordering more. A bit pricey but you pay for quality.

  • Reginald said:

Not bad performs as it should. Im satisfied with the performance so far. No misfires yet although I haven't shot too much but ill do another review if I run into issues. Shot a couple hundred out of my bolt action

  • curts63 said:

I bought these hoping they would perform better than the CCI standard velocity, they didn't. Well, at least not in my Tikka T1x.

  • Keith said:

I have about 400 rounds through my Browning SA 22 and Hight Standard outlet Nine. The are accurate and run well through the Browning but are difficult to load and extract from my revolver. The cases are very tight in the cylinder. I thought the cylinder might be dirty at first but after cleaning there was no improvement. Remington and Federal loaded and extracted with no problem

  • Luke said:

Product info says 990 fps, manufacturer says 1083. That's the difference between subsonic and supersonic depending on elevation and temperature... I was hoping for subsonic performance for quieter plinking.

  • Nick D. said:

Ammo fed reliably with the exception of 2 misfeeds out of 220rds and was pretty accurate; however, it has got to be some of the dirtiest ammo I've ever used.

  • lskie said:

alot of missfires&some of the shells were bent

  • Jerry said:

Bought a box and loaded 4 ten round magazines. Had 6 failures to fire in those 40 rounds. Unfired rounds had nice deep firing pin strikes. Turned a few over and tried again with no luck. Called the Winchester/Olin number on the box and a recording said to contact them on the website, then hung up. The website says they really want to help if you will just fill out this lengthy contract sheet. I guess this is the modern way some companies treat customers but for me it's the last Winchester product I'll buy.

  • Mike said:

I've already had several (over 70) misfires (4 boxes in) from 5 types of guns = did not expect that.

  • Mario said:

I was excited to try this ammo. I have been shooting primarily 22lr lately. I was very surprised and disappointed with this ammo. Every magazine (10 shots) produced miss-fires, eject failures, I would says for every 10 shots I had an average of 2-4 problems. I would expect this from a budget round but not from a CCI product. I struggled to get through my first of 3 containers. I have 2 left and I won’t be using them again in my pistols, I’ll try them in a rifle but I’m done trying the ammo in a pistol. I will not purchase again, definitely not. Every other CCI product I’ve shot has been great. Mario Furst Ruger MK 4 Hunter Browning Buckmark Camper UFX Indoor Range, controlled conditions

  • Jeff said:

Bought a brick of this ammo when I purchased a 22 long rifle conversion for my AR. It would not cycle! Also tried it in a AR style 22 rifle. Would not cycle!

  • Rich said:

Bought this ammo based off of CCI name and brand. Do not buy. It wouldn't cycle in the Ruger 22. Constant problems and a long day at the range....

  • DScott said:

Ammo shot great, well worth the purchase. Will be coming back when I need more.

  • 007 said:

    Can’t lose with CCI

  • Lou said:

I grew up in the 70 hurting with a Mossberg Model 351KA hurting squirrels with stinger's. I had very good luck. When I got in my early 20's I brought a Browning Buck Mark to take with me when I was deer hurting, because squirrels would to always come under your deer stand so at the end of the day I would use it for them. After a while I would hunt squirrels with the buck mark and stinger's, and at 61 I still use stinger's but I have upgraded to a Ruger Mark IV I got it because it is easier to clean. I also still have the Mossberg.

The customer service is the best part

Now these were good bullets, but the other ones I bought no sir

  • Robert said:

Clean smooth and accurate with no failures.

  • Jon said:

Bought a walther p22 and this is one of the few that work every time.

  • David said:

Absolutely the best 22lr ammunition I have ever shot; very consistent and accurate .

  • Hayes said:

This ammo is great and actually cycles well out of my SR .22 Winchester Wildcat. It doesn't cycle out of the Ruger 10/22 but that's OK because I got it for the Wildcat for shooting pests in my backyard. I have the Sparrow Surpresor on it and it's more quite than a Benjamin pellet gun. Very accurate at 40 yards and it puts birds to sleep instantly. Great product!
