Overview of 000 Buck Ammo

000 buckshot, also known as triple-aught buck, is one of the largest buckshot sizes available, making it a powerful choice for both hunting and personal defense. With .36-inch diameter pellets, 000 buckshot delivers significant stopping power, and with about eight pellets per round, it offers excellent penetration. Compared to 00 buckshot, the individual pellets in 000 buck are heavier, resulting in deeper penetration and more energy delivered to the target.

In home defense situations, 000 buck's devastating force makes it highly effective within an optimal range of 35 yards. While it has fewer pellets than smaller shot sizes, the increased size and weight of each pellet contribute to its remarkable stopping power. For hunting, 000 buck is often considered overkill for smaller game, but it excels in regions where larger prey like deer, moose, or bears are more common. If you're running a 20 gauge setup and want to compare load options, take a look at our full selection of 20 gauge ammo to find the best fit for your intended use.

For serious hunters and property defenders who rely on 000 buckshot—particularly those shooting 20 gauge platforms for reduced recoil without sacrificing power—purchasing bulk 20 gauge ammo ensures you're always prepared without breaking the bank.

The diameter on the brass end of the shells is too large. So it has to be forced into the cylinder a bit. Upon firing (I was playing with a S&W Governor) the shell expands further, so it backs out of the charging hole and locks up the cylinder. Then, you have to deal with extracting a shell that is far too large for the hole (obligatory giggety). It's a nightmare to shoot if you can shoot it at all. Hopefully I just got a bad batch. Regardless I will never purchase this stuff again . . . Couldn't give it away.
