22 LR Hollow Point For Sale
Overview of 22 LR Hollow Point
The 22 Long Rifle has been in production since 1887 and remains the most manufactured cartridge on earth, but it works with almost no margin. A 36 grain bullet leaving the muzzle at 1,250 fps carries roughly 125 foot-pounds of energy. There is nothing to waste. That is the entire argument for a hollow point in this caliber: a bullet that opens up dumps its energy into a squirrel or a groundhog instead of carrying most of it out the far side and into your neighbor's fence post.
The catch is that expansion in 22 LR is velocity-dependent in a way it is not in centerfire calibers. Rimfire hollow points generally need to be moving above roughly 1,150 fps to open reliably, which is why nearly every load on this page is high velocity or hyper velocity, running 33 to 40 grains. Drop below that threshold and a hollow point behaves a lot like a solid. If quiet matters more to you than terminal performance, the subsonic page is the honest place to shop, not this one.
Four hollow point constructions, and what each one is for
- Copper-plated hollow point (CPHP): the workhorse. Plating cuts lead fouling and helps semi-autos feed cleanly. CCI Mini-Mag, Federal BYOB, Winchester USA, and Remington Golden Bullet all live here.
- Lead hollow point (LHP): unplated and cheaper, and the soft exposed lead opens more readily at lower velocity. Remington Cyclone and Federal Champion. Expect more bore fouling.
- Truncated cone hollow point (TCHP): the flat-nosed hyper velocity option. Remington Yellow Jacket runs a 33 grain TCHP well past 1,400 fps for maximum energy transfer on small pests.
- Weight matters less than your rifle does: 22 LR accuracy is famously barrel-specific. A load that groups beautifully in one rifle scatters in the next, which is why the 50 and 100 round boxes exist.
Buy a small box of two or three candidates, shoot them side by side, then commit to the brick or case of whichever one your rifle actually likes.

I do a LOT of shooting with rim fire .22 ammo and hunt small game for the pot. This ammo is accurate, and shot to shot quality is stellar. Best I've ever used and ordering more. A bit pricey but you pay for quality.

The ammo is very good; the faster velocity makes the 40 gr. bullet a more accurate round over the 1235 fps. ammo. It is also a lot louder than your average round fired. All and all, this ammo works very well in my Browning Buck Mark Carbine.

This ammo is great and actually cycles well out of my SR .22 Winchester Wildcat. It doesn't cycle out of the Ruger 10/22 but that's OK because I got it for the Wildcat for shooting pests in my backyard. I have the Sparrow Surpresor on it and it's more quite than a Benjamin pellet gun. Very accurate at 40 yards and it puts birds to sleep instantly. Great product!
