Overview of 10mm Ammo
The 10mm Auto handgun, designed by Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Cooper in 1983 to replace the .45 ACP as the ideal combat pistol, features a flatter trajectory, better energy transfer, and greater range accuracy than the .45 Auto. It uses a cartridge short enough for semi-automatic pistols but powerful enough to match revolver Magnum rounds, with bullets weighing between 135 and 200 grains in both FMJ and hollow point variations.
The 10mm bullet measures 10.17mm (.400 inch) and sits in a rimless, straight-walled casing that's .992 inch long, totaling 1.250 inches according to SAAMI standards, with C.I.P. measuring it slightly larger at 1.260 inches. The round uses a large pistol primer, with SAAMI setting the maximum pressure at 37,500 psi, while C.I.P. lowers the max pressure to 33,000 psi.
