Overview of Hornady Ammo

Joyce Hornady sold his first bullet in 1949, a .30 caliber Spire Point weighing 150 grain. He was using a surplus bullet assembly press in a rented garage, where his company was born from his desire to build a better product that he could use himself – because first and foremost, Joyce was a shooter. His company would grow to become a force in the ammunition and reloading markets. Hornady Manufacturing grew rapidly during its first few years, increasing sales by 300 percent by the second year.

Hornady's innovation began during World War II when he repurposed .22 rimfire cartridges into bullets suitable for varmint shooting. Recognizing the lack of hunting ammunition in the post-war market, he focused on producing accurate, reliable rounds, leading to the development of Hornady's signature Spire Point bullet. Despite challenges like raw material shortages during the Korean War, Hornady adapted by creating alternative products, which later contributed to advancements in bullet jacket technology.

Expansion and Ballistic Breakthroughs

In 1958, Hornady moved to a dedicated facility in Grand Island, Nebraska, complete with an underground range for onsite ballistics testing. The company collaborated with U.S. Army ballisticians to develop the secant ogive design, which became a hallmark of Hornady bullets. Over the years, Hornady acquired competitors like Pacific Tool Company and West Coast Shot Company, consolidating its position as a leader in ammunition manufacturing.

Hornady's Family Legacy

The unexpected death of Joyce Hornady in 1981 marked a pivotal moment for the company. Under the leadership of his son, Steve Hornady, the company not only survived but thrived, maintaining its reputation for quality and innovation. Today, family members are required to gain outside experience before joining the business, ensuring a fresh perspective while preserving the Hornady legacy.

This ammo is unusable and a complete waste of money. I will never purchase frontier ammo again. The rounds simply do not cycle. I tried 6 different boxes and not a single round cycled correctly. Using this ammo essentially made my ar a bolt action rifle. I feel completely ripped off as I spent a ton of money for unusable ammo.

I just completed my first AR build and I wasn't sure how it'd run, so I ordered 200 rounds of these and kept my fingers crossed. I cycled through 180 rounds at the range, many with the FRT set to rapid fire, and everything went smoothly, no hiccups at all. I'm running a 9-inch BCM upper with a can, and a Griffin Armament suppressor-optimized 4.9 oz buffer with a $24 flat wire spring, nothing too fancy. The residue can get a bit dirty, but you got to expect that. The most important thing to me was that it cycled reliably at a good price point, and this ammo certainly lived up to the challenge. I'll be buying more boxes.

This purchase was 200 rounds for $342.00 including shipping. So $1.60 delivered to the front door was worth it to me. Happy shooting.

Bought this ammo for a Run N Gun competition, it worked falsely as it should. I reload my own but with the short notice of this shoot I did not have the time to reload my own. I have some to trust Hornady products as I use there Lock N Load AP Ammo plant press. This ammo was great and was super quiet with my 10.5" SBR I will be getting some more soon so I have the brass to save this time.

I used these rounds a couple of weeks ago hog hunting. 2 bullets fired, 2 hogs down! 97 lbs and 104lbs. Good head shot placement. They both went down immediately, didn't even take one step.
