Overview of 9mm Ammo
Whether you call it the 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm NATO, 9 millimeter, or just plain 9mm, 9x19mm ammunition is the most popular cartridge for handguns in the world – with more than 60% of the world's law enforcement agencies currently using this ammo. The role of 9mm Luger bullets in World War I and its continued popularity today testifies to its capabilities as an efficient and effective cartridge.
Yet the 9mm’s journey from a bullet designed by Georg Luger for submachine guns to, perhaps, one of the most controversial self-defense cartridges in the world, has been one of exponential growth and development. This continues into today’s modern world, over 100 years since its conception.
What are the most popular 9mm brands you sell?
- Federal 9mm Ammo – including the highly regarded Federal HST 9mm ammo
- Fiocchi 9mm Ammo
- PMC 9mm Ammo
- Remington 9mm Ammo
- Winchester 9mm Ammo
- Blazer Brass 9mm Ammo
- Speer Gold Dot 9mm Ammo
- Underwood 9mm Ammo – +P and +P+ defensive loads, from 68 grain monolithic solids up to a 147 grain XTP
- MaxxTech 9mm Ammo – budget 115 and 124 grain FMJ, in 50-round boxes and 500-round bulk packs
Before you settle on a box size, it helps to know where prices sit right now. Our 9mm price-per-round history tracks the cheapest range ammo on the market every month since 2009. If you want a familiar range load to compare against that history, Winchester White Box 9mm comes in 115, 124, and 147 grain FMJ, from 50-round boxes up to 1,000-round cases.
You can filter our entire selection using the left sidebar to see which brands we currently have in-stock and available using the Manufacturers filter. You can also filter by attributes such as Bullet Type, Bullet Weight, Casing Type and Primer Type to find what you need.

I bought 250 rounds. I have only shot 50, but have had no feeding or ejection problems. It is at least as accurate as my 56 year-old eyes can shoot and was much cleaner than the cheaper ammo on the market. Like I said, I will buy more as it becomes available.

I recently read about the benefits of TMJ over FMJ so I decided to try it. After firing 150 rounds, the gun has virtually no lead fouling, only carbon deposits. This ammo feeds and runs the same as FMJ in my Glock and SW Shield-EZ. The cost difference is minimal for the advantages of a cleaner gun and less lead put into the air.
-
Justus said:
My handgun has a compensator and it gets some pretty nasty lead fouling from the ammo I’ve been using so I decided to try the TMJ. The difference is unmistakable, still some carbon buildup but almost no lead fouling. I will definitely be making this my standard target ammo.
-
Kev said:
So far I’ve tried a lot of range ammo in the last couple of months. Speer seems to be the most consistent ammo I’ve shot. Never mind the fact that it is one of the cleanest I’ve used. One of the only brands that doesn’t leave the end of my gun dirty after firing 400 rounds, anyway. By end of the gun I mean exterior of the grip module and barrel. I never had a malfunction with this brand either. Mag dump after mag dump led to a great time and not a single issue. If this ammo was any cheaper it would be my go to ammo every range day. The only reason why it doesn’t have 5 stars for the quality rating is due to it coming in with light brown spots on every bullet. However it did cycle and shoot the best out of other range ammo’s that I’ve tried.

These rounds are almost perfect, have fired over 2k rounds of this particular round and not one misfire or bad round. The downside is that the round is silver colored instead of gold colored, and if that is all I have to complain about, well enough said.

Sergio, you're spot on. It's an old style jhp with rumored poor expansion in short barrels (4-stars). I've got a CZ75 and SP-01, so I don't expect to see any problems. Federal Premium is always reliable; this is no different. (5-stars) Nothing special, but JHP of good quality. It wasn't the worst deal around — I was just resigned to buying DoubleTap for a lot more. I'd rather pay for this than that, or junk, or nothing at all. (3-stars just based on what 9mm SHOULD cost — and I'm sure not saying anything bad about Ammo.com — they're great.)
-
Sergio said:
Hey, when it's all that's available, you buy it !! Pleasantly surprised-- fired about 175 rounds--no problems whatsoever. Groups were roughly equivalent to high-dollar ammo (from an LC9)--OK not exactly a sniper weapon. Bottom line is that Ammo.com had the product in stock---no one else did. Is it worth 75c a round? Probably not--- is gas worth 4.00 a gallon? Probably not. Bottom line is that I snagged 1000 rounds of perfectly acceptable ammo--at a price based on supply and demand.

I bought this ammo on a hunch to feed my 5 nines. It is a little lighter than I wanted, but within parameters. So far it has held up perfectly; no failures to fire, no FTEs, nothing wrong, and good groups. I'm glad I bought it.

Had a box of this laying around for month, pulled it out at the range and used it between some Winchester 9mm target and some bulk ammo brand. Fired flawlessly through my Glock. At 21ft went from ten inch groupings down to 2 in groupings using this stuff then back to ten inch groupings after I used it. Clear as day this stuff is accurate with virtually NO recoil. Would not want this in a tactical situation but if you want to see how accurate you really try this stuff.

Good quality ammo. It worked well with my SD9VE. Smooth cycle. I don’t recommend this as you’re primary ammo at the range because it has a lot of recoil/snap. After a couple magazines I could feel my hand and wrist getting tired. Overall, I would buy it again.

Speer is the best ammo I have used. A lot of it is made in the Great Northwest, so with the ammo shortage and everyone hard up for ANY ammo, I'm happy to be using ammo made in America as well. I also like this ammo's total metal jacket (TMJ) which limits lead exposure. Never had a FTF with Speer. Great Stuff!

The price on this ammo is amazing, but it is dirty. I shot 250 rounds through a Glock 17 and needed to clean my weapon after 150 rounds. My daughter also bought some because I told her about the great deal. She was shooting a Sig P365 9mm, the Sig does not like the flat nose on this ammo. She shot 100 rounds and was having problems feeding before she finished 50 rounds. We cleaned her weapon, and still had the same problem. I had no feed issues with my Glock. I'm not real sure why Federal decided to go flat nose on this round when they have round nose on their 115 & 124 grain rounds. As good of a deal as this was I don't think I'll be purchasing anymore of this ammo.

My Glock eats this stuff up. I like it so much I don't want to shoot the remaining 700 rounds I have left. I just stash it with 300 rounds of 9BPLE and take it out to drool over it before I head to the range with PMC for plinking.

Seems to work well for me in my Beretta 92s Italian Police turn-in. A possible alternative if you can't or don't want to use +P ammo in your 9mm However, as with the case with every self-dense loading fire at least a full mag (plus one in the chamber if this is how you would use it for self-defense) through the gun to make sure it feeds and ejects all rounds before relying on it for self-defense.

This review isn’t necessarily about the ammo , all I can say is I like to cycle my ammo at least once a year and I’m getting what I feel to be the best and this ammo is it ! What I am writing today is first I don’t do reviews it’s just not my thing , but I’m making an exception because I’m extremely impressed with ammo.com ! I ordered on a Sunday night , not 10 mins after I ordered I had confirmation numbers and the way they did there emails to me are 2nd to know one ,giving you every bit of info you could possibly want and things were in such a professional manner . Excellent deal ( pretty much what I paid pre rona) like I said I ordered Sunday night snd it was at my door on Wednesday shipped in excellent packaging !

Best self defense ammo to carry I have seen. At this point I can't imagine carrying anything else for my own protection. It is pricey but my Life and family are worth every penny for CC.
