Overview of 9mm Ammo

Whether you call it the 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm NATO, 9 millimeter, or just plain 9mm, 9x19mm ammunition is the most popular cartridge for handguns in the world – with more than 60% of the world's law enforcement agencies currently using this ammo. The role of 9mm Luger bullets in World War I and its continued popularity today testifies to its capabilities as an efficient and effective cartridge.

Yet the 9mm’s journey from a bullet designed by Georg Luger for submachine guns to, perhaps, one of the most controversial self-defense cartridges in the world, has been one of exponential growth and development. This continues into today’s modern world, over 100 years since its conception.

What are the most popular 9mm brands you sell?

Before you settle on a box size, it helps to know where prices sit right now. Our 9mm price-per-round history tracks the cheapest range ammo on the market every month since 2009.

You can filter our entire selection using the left sidebar to see which brands we currently have in-stock and available using the Manufacturers filter. You can also filter by attributes such as Bullet Type, Bullet Weight, Casing Type and Primer Type to find what you need.

The most widely carried load in the lineup is the Speer Gold Dot 9mm 124gr +P, trusted by law enforcement agencies and serious civilian carriers for its proven terminal performance.

You can also check out our in-depth look at 9mm ballistics from all of the popular ammo manufacturers if you're in search of ballistics data for your favorite factory 9mm load. I have a 9mm taurus g2 and these steel cased bullets jammed multiple times per clip

  • PwB said:

I shoot this stuff all the time and it runs FLAWLESSLY for me. I am a re-loader but, as long as I can get 9mm at $0.18 ~ $0.21 I am going to use this. Thanks Tulammo!

  • LARRY said:

Bought an order of 900 and it came in a large spam can with no tool. Took a while using a screwdriver and mallet to chisel the thing open. Also wished I knew that indoor ranges wouldn't let me shoot steel cased ammo beforehand though I was lucky to find an outdoor range nearby. On 3 different days of shooting 100 rounds each time had a single casing fail to eject from my Taurus G2C. Thought it was something wrong with my gun but everyone at the range says steel case tends to do that. Overall I enjoy using it though I will get brass case next time.

  • Icky said:

the ammo itself is great. no issues. just make sure your range allows steel ammo before ordering this. any range near me wont let me use it. there are places i can use it so ill get through it eventually, but i wish id got brass stuff instead.

I have a remmington R51 9mm and a S7W shield 9mm they won't eject the steel case shells and they stick in the clip I won't buy any more steel case bullets

  • SV said:

Ammo works just fine. Had an accidental double charge for the order which was fixed in a day or two with a single call to the ammo.com customer support.

  • Sasquatch148 said:

I ordered a 1,000 round case of 9mm. I've shot about 800 rounds of it. A lot of it through my Ruger Blackhawk convertible and some through my xd . Not one single misfire and no problems of any kind. It's good stuff at a great price.

  • merlin said:

I was very happy with the results as I have never used this particular ammo before. No problems with it at all. I am also very happy with the service I received from ammo.com. This was my 2nd order with them and I will be back to order more in the future. Super fast delivery and excellent customer service and terrific prices. What more could one ask for?

  • thisisme said:

I've run at least 500 rounds through a Springfield XD 9 with zero issues. Cleaner than other ammo around this price. I would recommend it to a friend.

  • Ed said:

    good ammo for target practice.

  • Vegas Mike said:

it was a fair price. However I have shot 450 rounds so far through my EAA Witness 9mm and every single magazine had at least 5 or 6 rounds jam and get hung up. I tried other types of ammo but only experienced the problem with Tul Ammo.

  • Chuck said:

Order was easy, ammo arrived quick, ammo shoots good

  • Jake said:

When I received the ammo it came in a regular box without any markings, the UPS driver asked if it was ammo due the weight. It was great to shoot with my fns 9mm, no problems at all. Magtech. At first i didn't know nothing about it so I did a research and find out, some good words about company and ammo as well. Took their word for it and order some 9mm steel casing (19mm).Send 700 rounds down the range from 3 diferent guns but as always my Beretta 92fs took most of the stress. No isues with cycling or ejection of cartridges. This is my second order of magtech 9mm and I couldn't be more happier with it. Ammo works just fine from every aspect. Will be back for more soon. Nothing but respect for Ammo team. Keep up good work.

I picked up 6 boxes of this for my Glock 17. Seeing as how their .45 ammo runs through my Glock 21 with zero problems. This ammo had about 5 failure to fires, 2 or 3 failure to ejects, and due to failed ejection failure to feed. All failures were within less than 150 rounds.1 spent casing was stuck in my barrel and it took me over 20 minutes to get it out. Not to mention inconsistent muzzle flash. I'm really hoping I just got a bad run of ammo, but I CANNOT recommend their 9mm ammunition.

Reliability: Magtech has a good reputation for producing reliable ammunition. Cost-Effectiveness: Buying in bulk (1000 rounds) often results in a lower cost per round. Suitability for Range Use/Training: FMJ rounds are ideal for target practice and training. Availability: 9mm is a widely available caliber, and Magtech is a common brand. Decent Velocity: 115 grain rounds typically have good muzzle velocities, offering flat trajectories.

I suppose my expectations for ammo are pretty simple. When I pull the trigger, I expect to hear a boom and the target ends up with a hole in it, somewhat close to where I was aiming. This ammo does that without fail. No issues with my CZ, Glock, Kriss Vector, and S&W. What about groupings? I like the dinner plate grouping idea. Oh you don’t know what that is? A dinner plate is about the size of a person’s face or vital chest area. If I can put half of my rounds in the dinner plate, I’m doing way better than the person behind the dinner plate area.

Recently I used this particular round type during the break-in period for a new 9mm handgun. The handgun performed flawlessly right out of the box without a single failure. We both agree that this is our favorite go to 9mm Ammo, for use both on the range and for insuring frustration free break-in periods for new handguns.

Good target ball ammo that is ballistically equivalent to many of the common self defense loads in the 124 grain class. There is a consistency between shots. Boxes have styrofoam holds to hold the bullets. I have no complaints running this ammo through an older Glock 19.

I usually use 115 grain so I'm a little baffled that the 124 which have more power have LESS recoil. I was hitting every target whether it was the silhouettes, cans, bottles, I'm talking aim and pull in consecutive motion. I haven't had this from other brands (not downing they're great as well). Does ammo really make that much of a difference?

Awful! On a Glock 19 experienced a phenomenal about one misfire in ten (primer dented, but not firing). Same round could then be fired (most of the time) in a Glock 17, where the misfire rate was only about 1 in 25. Experienced same (1:25) error rate shooting in both a Sig320 and HK MP5K. This is the ONLY band ammo we have had any problems with, including cheap CHinese stuff. Same guns fired 10K rounds of Remmington in the months prior this purchase and experienced NO misfires.

A number of large urban police departments have issued this round for duty in the past fifteen years, including Cincinnati, Ohio PD. They've had a fair number of deadly force incidents with it. It generally gives decent expansion and outstanding straight-line penetration, and does anything you might ask a duty or carry load to do quite well. One downside is that Winchester in the past several years has had some quality control problems. Another is that this round is not sealed or waterproofed in any way. Nonetheless at least when fired from full size duty pistols, it almost always expands in gelatin, even through a heavy clothing barrier. I don't think it is quite as consistent in its performance after hard barriers like automobile windshields as, for example, T-Series/Ranger-T, Gold Dot, or HST, but it's really very good. I don't think you can do much better for the money. Not so long ago it was available at Wal-Mart. I bought it cheap and stacked it deep back then. The carry gun is currently loaded with Winchester 147gr T-Series, but if premium 9mm defensive ammo were not available, I'd carry these without complaint.
