Winchester 5.56 USA ammo is some of the highest rated ammunition available – but is it deserving of that reputation? For this Winchester 5.56 White Box ammo review, I ordered some from Ammo.com and headed to my gun range with my AR-15.

I was surprised by a few things when firing these rounds, and I think you will be too. Let’s get into it.

Winchester white box is a good choice of 5.56 ammo when plinking at the range. I found it to be reasonably priced, reliable, and accurate. I expected some failures to fire or malfunctions while firing this ammo, but I didn't experience any during my time at the range. I alternated between slowly pulling the trigger and firing rapidly in an attempt to cause a malfunction, but couldn't produce that result despite my best effort.

Since this is not match-grade ammo, I fired it freehanded with iron sights. I was as accurate as I could expect to be in that situation. I didn't expect to drive tacks with this ammo from long range, but it is accurate enough for target shooting at conventional ranges.

I'm not the only one who's had a positive experience with Winchester white box. Other Ammo.com customers rate this ammo five stars because it's priced well, accurate out to 200 yards, and dependable.

Pros and Cons of 5.56 White Box Ammo

Reasonably priced

Winchester is loved by many shooters because their ammo has proven itself reliable in various platforms over the decades. After firing Winchester white box 5.56 ammo, most shooters (myself included) claim that it's reliable, accurate, and priced within reason.

The biggest drawback I experienced while testing this ammunition was its dirtiness. It didn't appear to have been polished at the factory and felt a little greasy and grimy, but that didn't affect the performance of this ammunition.
