History of 44-40 Winchester Ammo
Introduced in 1873, the .44-40 Winchester (also known as the .44 Winchester Center Fire, .44 Winchester, or .44 Largo) was used on the frontier by adventure seekers heading West. While initially designed as a rifle cartridge, the Frontier Six-Shooter was introduced by Colt in the late 1800s, allowing adventure seekers to carry one cartridge for their rifles and handguns.
