7mm Backcountry For Sale
Overview of 7mm Backcountry
7mm Backcountry is the newest 7mm in the lineup. Federal and Christensen Arms built it to deliver magnum-class velocity from a short, lightweight mountain rifle. Instead of a brass case, it uses Federal's Peak Alloy steel case, which tolerates chamber pressures around 80,000 psi, far above what conventional brass can handle. The result is 7mm Remington Magnum and 7mm PRC performance from a barrel several inches shorter, with the same bullets and a rifle that's easier to carry up a ridge.
Our current 7mm Backcountry selection is Federal's 155 grain Terminal Ascent, a bonded, polymer-tipped hunting bullet built to expand across a wide velocity window, from close shots to long-range elk and mule deer. More loads will be added as manufacturers bring them to market.
Why hunters are looking at 7mm Backcountry
- Magnum velocity, shorter barrel: the high-pressure steel case lets a short rifle hit speeds that used to take a 26 inch barrel.
- Lighter rifles: shorter barrels mean less weight to carry on backcountry hunts.
- Proven bullet diameter: the .284 bullet is long-established for high-BC elk and deer hunting.
- Not built for traditional handloading: the Peak Alloy case runs at pressures that standard brass and published load data don't cover.
